Johannes Vermeer

Title: Girl with the pearl earring
Year: 1665
Media: Oil Paint on Canvas
Where: Holland during the Baroque Period

Painted by Dutch artist, Jan Vermeer. Girl with the pearl earring is one of the most recognised art pieces. The painting is also been call 'The Dutch Mona Lisa' or 'The Mona Lisa of the North'.

A strength in this painting is the use of light, which highlights of the pearl as well as the girls face. The background is very plain, it is different compared to his other art pieces which usually has a busy background, but because of this it shows that Vermeer's main focus of the painting is the girl and her pearl earring.

Title: Girl With Red Hat
Artist: Johannes Vermeer
Year: 1666

See in this painting the background is very busy, but it still shows us main focus of the other painting but with a bit more life into the painting by adding colour and detail to the background.
