Sensing the Surface blog 1

Week One

On Wednesday and Thursday was our first time having a new teacher/tutor, Frances. We first saw a power point of 20th century artists, then choosing one artist and there work for our forgery assignment the next week. Then Selecting 2 artist we had to do a study on them, the artists who i was interested in were Andy Warhol and Jackson pollack.

Artist: Andy Warhol
Title: Marylin
Style: Pop Art
Year: 1962

I found this painting interesting because not only was it of Marylin Monroe but also the colour which is used in Warhol's works. In my opinion i think the artist used Monroe as his subject in this painting to tell a story of her life.

Week Two

In week two we all had to select a painting of the artist we did for our study the week for our forgery assignment this week.  I decided to choose a painting from Andy Warhol, His coke bottle painting/print.

Doing this painting i found it a bit difficult because of the of how the lines are so close to each other and also how they shaped differently.

Here is my almost finished design compare to the original.

Then for part of Thursday we learnt how to stretch our own canvas which we will be using next week for our self portrait assignment. We also had to take a photograph of our partner for next week as we will be using that photo for our painting.
